4/5 Stars – Review by David Flack

The evil Pennywise clown materialises again in Derry 27 years after the ‘losers club ‘seemingly defeated him. In this sequel to the original ‘IT’ movie of 2017 Director Andy Muschietti reunites the Losers Club, now adults , in a return to where it all began with “IT Chapter Two,” the conclusion to the highest-grossing horror film of all time. The Losers have over the years gone their separate

ways. However, kids are disappearing again, so Mike, the only one of the group to remain in their hometown, calls the others home. Damaged by the experiences of their past, they each must conquer their deepest fears to final destroy Pennywise once and for all…putting them directly in the path of the clown that has become deadlier than ever.
The film starts with a nasty homophobic attack that adds little to the plot and is full of horrific twists and turns that last for an overlong two hours fifty minutes with lots of flash backs to the kids in the original film. I felt that the plot weakened as the struggle to defeat Pennywise evolved and frankly lacked clarity around the true nature of Pennywise and the losers plan to defeat him. I think the movie could have been more effective in the final stages if it had been edited in a sharper and shorter fashion. However whilst not quite hitting the nail biting heights of Chapter One, IT Chapter Two had moments of very tense and scary action that kept me focussed for most of its duration, but a little weary as the climax approached towards the end of three hours. Whilst the 2017 IT was definitely a five star movie, chapter two is worth four stars.
