Godzilla: King of the Monsters instantly places us into the aftermath of the events of 2014 with Godzilla not seen since he returned to the ocean. The organisation Monarch has set about finding the resting places of the Titans in order to appreciate and protect these creatures. However, there are others that wish to use the monsters powers for other purposes. When a number of darker, more evil creatures, including the three-headed King Ghidorah are awaken, Monarch must attempt to bring Godzilla back to their cause, or risk losing humanity itself.
The stories execution suffers from lazy writing and a script packed full of uninteresting human characters that cannot compete with the unrelenting CGI monster mash. However, when choosing to see this movie you know exactly what you’re signing up for. On all accounts Godzilla: King of the Monsters makes up for it’s previous movies shy pacing with towering set pieces and mesmerising monster sounds just 10 minutes in, these jaw dropping scenes keep the movie alive and the audience distracted from the otherwise weak human performances.
It’s a great fun joyride with easily excusable dips worthy of any action enthusiast out there.
…Stick around after the credits too.
