This dystopian film follows on from the Joker in Gotham City. Harley (Margot Robbie) is the jilted girlfriend of the Joker. She is a bubbly comedic homicidal psychopath wending her way through a whole series of flat out paced violent scenes as she dispatches male villain’s intent on settling old scores with her. The principle villain Black Mask (Ewan McGregor) is a sadistic murderous night club owner who spares Harley life provided she retrieves a priceless diamond stolen by a teenage pickpocket Cassandra Cain (Ella Jay Basco). She is aided by three women who have been mistreated by men: a crossbow-wielding vigilante called Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), a singer called Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell), and a police detective called Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez). Inevitably the saga ends with the mass slaughter of all the Gotham criminals in a sort of feminist triumph of swearing. Violent but well dressed women defeating a whole army of even shallower mostly Neanderthal men, in this respect the film and its very shallow plot makes a statement. Probably younger film goers will perhaps enjoy this film more.
